The biggest festival of Hindus’s, Dashain, has began. Tuesday, people celebrated the Fulpati, the 7th day of Dashain, worshipping goddess Durga Bhawani and transferring Fulpati Procession from various parts of the nation.However the tradition of bringing Fulpati from Gorkha palace to Kathmandu didn’t continue this year due to fuel crisis in the nation. King Prithvi Naraya Shah had began the tradition of bringing Fulpati from Gorkha to kathmandu, traveling 169 km. Hopefully the tradition will resume in next year’s Dashain.
The Fulpati is the container filled with holy water, Jamara (sowed on Ghatasthapana Day), Banana Stalk and Sugarcane plant tied with holy red cloth which is carried away by Brahmins on a decorated palanquin under a gold tipped and embroidered umbrella to various Dashain Ghars through out nation.
Nepal Army has marked the day firing Cannons and Rifles at Tundikhel of Capital on Tuesday.

Dashain is celebrated for 15 days starting from Ghatasthapana day and concludes on Kojagrat  Purnima.People sowed the Jamara on the first day of Dashain which will be used on the day of Teeka on the 10th day of festival.Although the festival is celebrated for 15 days, the special days begin from Fulpati day on the day seventh.The 8th and the 9th days are called Maha Asthami and Maha Nawami which is celebrated worshipping Mother Goddess Durga, who is the goddess of Power and Victory.Buffallos, Goats, Sheeps, Ducks, Pigeons, Chicken etc are sacrified to goddess Durga during day 8 and 9.
The day 10th is the main Dashain day called “Bijaya Dashami” or Teeka.On Bijaya Dashami day, worshipping of Durga is concluded and the Teeka day is celebrated.Teeka, a mixture of curd, rice seed and vermilion; along with jamara, is put on the forehead by senoirs on the family.People visit to their family and relatives to receive Teeka and blessings for 5 days which concludes on Kojagrat Purnima.
