April 16, 2016:Nepal has defeated Namibia by 5 wickets in the ICC World Cricket League Championship match played at TU Stadium in Kathmandu on Saturday.
Sharad Bheswakar and Binod Bhandary played the keyrole to register Nepal’s first victory in the championship. Namibia who chose to bat first scored 195 run losing their 9 wickets in full 50 overs put Nepal in pressure until the 45th overs.
Nepal lost their openers Gyanendra Malla and Naresh Budhayer very quickly and captain Parash Khadka and Raju Rijal also were out without any significant contribution.
Once Bhandari and Bheswakar came, they slowly caught rhythm and held the wicket until the 45th overs with slow score sharing.Later they took agressive mode and made the victory possible before 17 balls remaining.Nepal met their target 196 in 47.1 over losing only 5 wickets. They shared 84 runs in 14.3 overs. Sharad had 4 fours in 99 balls while completing his half-century whereas Binod scored 3 sixes and one Fours in 49 balls.Likewise Parash Khadka and Gyanendra Malla scored equal 21 runs, Naresh Budhaer 16, Raju Rijal 6 and Rajesh Pulami scored 9 runs.
Earlier Bashant Regmi took 3 wickets, Sompal Kami 2, Skipper Khadka 1 and Sandip Lamichhane took 1 wicket.Sarel Burger scored the highest 38 runs for the team.
With the victory Nepal has climbed on the sixth position in the points table with 2 points.The top 4 teams will advance to the ICC World Cup Qualifier 2018.
There was a huge crowd of Nepalese fans in the TU stadium estimated to be 25 thousands.With enormous supports from the home ground and supporters, Nepalese players have kept the hope alive to accomodate at the top 4.
