Oct 17, 2015- Onsari Gharti Magar of the UCPN Maoist has been unanimously elected the Speaker of Parliament on Friday. She is the first ever female and the youngest person to hold the position in the country’s history. Magar was elected unanimously after Anuradha Thapa from Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party withdrew her candidacy. Nepali congress the main opposition party had also decided to support the candidates from UML-Maoist collation.
Born and raised in Rolpa district, Magar joined Maoist party in 1995 and participated in various wars against parliamentary system. She became the battalion chief of Maoist army and a central committee member of CPN Maoist in 2002 at the age of 25.She was nominated as Constituent Assembly member of first Constituent Assembly under proportional system in 2008 and served as Minister for Youth and Sports during Jhalanath led government and she became CA member (lawmaker) again in 2013 wining direct election from Rolpa Constutuency-2.She was elected as the vice-chairman of second constituent assembly and resigned from the post recently as per the Constitution of Nepal 2072 along with house chairman Suwash Nembang.
Similarly Ganga Prasad Yadav of RPP Nepal party has been elected as Deputy Speaker of the House.Yadav was also elected unanimously after his contender Dilli
