Noted Nepalese movie actor Thinle Lhondup has passed away on Sunday along with the horse he was riding.
Thinle is popularly known worldwide due to his lead role in the movie Himalaya Caravan directed by Eric Valli.
According to the family source, Thinle and his horse fell down off the steep trail while going up to Saldang village from Dunai, headquarter of Dolpa district. Police Inspector Dhruwaraj Raut from Dolpa said that Thinle passed away falling down off the narrow trail after pushed by some donkey travelling from the opposite direction.
According to the landlord Ram Krishna Regmi at Dunai , where Thinle had been living for some time, his body will be brought to Dunai by helicopter or carrying by people on Monday.
Thinle had been getting treatment of stomach cancer for some time.
His movie Himalaya Caravan was the first and only Nepalese movie to be nominated in the Oscar on Best Foreign Language Film category.Himalaya received the Cesar Award for Best Cinematography and Cesar Award for Best Original Score in 2000.
Apart from Himalaya, Thin Le had acted in few Nepalese movies and music videos. Sa Karnali by Amrit Gurung (Nepathya Band) is the most popular song screened on him.
His life has ended in a tragic way like in the movie Caravan itself where a Yak falls down to Phoksundo Lake due to very dangerous, steep and narrow road over the Phoksundo lake.
Thinle has become the unannounced tourism ambassador for Dolpo Region after the movie. Several INGOs have recognized Dolpa region, it’s beauty and the hardship facing by people there and worked on education, health and development sector to improve the lifestyle of local people in Dolpo region.
Before the movie Himalaya, Thinle was head of the village and he was also elected as the Village Development Committee Chief after the restoration of democracy in Nepal.
