Two people have been killed in Surkhet after police opened fire to stop the violent protest. One more person has been reported dead yet to be confirmed.
Surkhet protest initially started by local leaders of major parties as a peaceful social protest, who were dissatisfied with the proposed boundaries of federal states in new constitution, went out of control when some of the protesters started attacking at government offices, party offices of Nepali Congress and CPN Maoist and home of NC leader and lawmaker Purna Bahadur Khadka.Police initially tried to disperse the crowd with baton charging and tear gas couldn’t control the situation and opened fire that led dozen injured including some journalist and left 2 killed. Those killed have been identified as Tikaram Gautam of Birendranagar-8 and anther local Yam Bahadur BC.
The local administration has imposed curfew at Surkhet starting from 1 pm to 9 pm Monday.
Meanwhile an injured person named as Amit Pant has been sent to Kathmandu for treatment. Condition of four of those injured are said to be critical.
