Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister, Kamal Thapa, has pledged to ensure the 35 per cent population’s access to electricity.
Works were going on at the war-footing level through joint efforts of the Energy Ministry and Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to provide electricity to the people who are still deprived of this facility.

In his address to a programme organised by the NEA regional office, Hetauda, today, he said the government had already called on the domestic and foreign investors to start their business in the sector of energy in Nepal as well.

He viewed that completion of the under construction Kulekhani III project as soon as possible would help reduce the load-shedding from the country for a long term. He expressed his concerns over a big loss caused by a delay in completing the project which had began some 10 years ago.

On the occasion, Energy Secretary Anup Upadhyay stressed on the need of cracking down on illegal power leakage in the Terai and promoting the small scale hydropower projects.
The taskforce has been formed to control power leakage, said Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Kulman Ghising.
The Energy Ministry and NEA were working to operate small hydro projects which have got production permission from the ministry, and distribute electricity after importing additional power from foreign countries, he informed.

Meanwhile, Minister Thapa inspected the Project site based in Sanutar of Bhimfedi Rural Municipality-1 today itself.
On the occasion, project chief Subadh Mishra informed the Minister that works were going on with the target of generating 14 megawatt of electricity from this project by the third week of upcoming January. The Kulekhani III is being constructed at a cost of Rs 4.52 billion. RSS
